Good The writer stays on topic and the reader is engaged. Ideas are clear but lacking somewhat in originality and interest.	Fair The writer's topic is not clearly identified. Details are limited and there is no in-depth explanation or discussion.	Poor The writer's topic is not clearly defined. Details are limited and there is no discussion or explanation.
Writing Conventions	Excellent Most sentences contain correct capitalization and punctuation. Most sentences are complete with less than three spelling errors.	Good A few sentences are missing capital letters and/or correct punctuation. Many sentences are complete with less than five spelling errors.	Fair Many sentences are missing capital letters and/or correct punctuation. Many sentences are incomplete with less than six spelling errors.	Poor Most of the sentences are missing capital letters and/or correct punctuation. Many sentences are incomplete with seven or more spelling errors.
