Picture Content	Demonstrating The student can draw a recognizable picture of himself/herself on his/her birthday. He/she added detail and color to the picture that was exemplary. The picture also included something that was birthday related.	Developing The student can draw a picture of himself/herself on his/her birthday. The detail in the picture was good but the teacher needed to ask the student to explain his/her picture.	Areas for improvement The student can draw a picture of himself/herself with not much detail. Nothing indicated in this picture that the prompt was about his/her birthday celebration.
One sentence	Demonstrating The student could write a sentence with great detail, length and content. The student sound/symbol relationship was exemplary for a kindergartener.	Developing The student can write a few words that might be in a sentence with some sound symbol relationships within the words.
