	Excellent 4 pts	Good 3 pts	Average 2 pts	Poor 1 pts
Completion	Excellent Journal entry is completed with a paragraph of 5 complete sentences or more. A quality summary of the character in the passage is given.	Good Journal entry has less than 3-4 complete sentences in a paragraph. An adequate summary of the character in the passage is given.	Average Journal entry has 3 complete sentences or less. A poor summary is given.	Poor Journal response has not been completed at all.
Response Quality	Excellent Responses are fully developed and strongly on-topic.	Good Responses are acceptably developed and remain on-topic for the most part.	Average Responses are underdeveloped and do not remain on-topic.	Poor Response is critically underdeveloped and lacking in the key areas of basic English.
Specific Details	Excellent Student makes many excellent use of specific details from the text describing the characters and puts it into their own words.	Good Student uses some good details from text in their own words to describe the characters.	Average Student attempts to use specific details but does not put it into their own words.	Poor Student uses no details from the text and work is incomplete.
Descriptive Language	Excellent Student used previous knowledge to include sentences that are well developed and use descriptive language.	Good Student show knowledge of descriptive language and include some in the sentences.	Average Student attempt to use descriptive language in sentences.	Poor Student does not use descriptive language in sentences.
