Reading Response Rubric Reading Response Rubric Students Respond based on texts and/or multi-media presentations presented in class. These responses will include but are not limited to exemplars related to the texts that support the reading/writing connection. Context is relevant. Response to Reading/Research
	Level 4 Exceeding 4 pts	Level 3 Above 3 pts	Level 2 Meeting or Approaching 2 pts	Level 1 Below 1 pts
Details from Text	Level 4 The details from the text clearly and completely support the response.	Level 3 The details somewhat support the response.	Level 2 The detail only slightly supports the response.	Level 1 No or only one detail from the text is used in the response. OR The detail has no connection or support the response.
Elaboration of Ideas	Level 4 There are multiple sentences that further explain the details chosen from the text. Response to peers' writing extensively elaborates on their ideas.	Level 3 There are a few sentences that further explain the details chosen from the text. Response to peers' writing somewhat elaborates on ideas.	Level 2 There is just one sentence that further explains the details from the text. Response to peers' writing extends only one idea	Level 1 There is nothing written that further explains the details from the text. Response to peers' writing does not extend ideas or simply repeats what was already said.
Mechanics	Level 4 Sentences are correct grammatically, mechanically, etc. (Sentences are complete (no fragments). Punctuation is used correctly through-out.)	Level 3 Fewer than three grammatical, mechanical, etc. errors present (Sentences are complete. Punctuation is mostly used correctly.)	Level 2 Between three and five mechanical, grammatical errors, etc.	Level 1 More than five grammatical, mechanical. etc. errors present.
Making Connections	Level 4 Extensive critical thinking about the text is evident AND Response includes connections between the text and self, other text(s), and the world.	Level 3 Some critical thinking about the text is shown AND Response includes connections between the text and self, or the text to the world.	Level 2 Little critical thinking is exhibited. OR Response includes only one connection: between the text and self, or text to the world.	Level 1 There is no critical thinking within the response. OR Response does not include connections.
