Following Direction
1 pts

Student has followed the written procedure before personal investigation.

Advanced

* All steps in the procedure are evident from the lab notebook.
* Each step is described appropriately in the lab write up.
* Data is given for each required case.
Good

* Some problems exist in following the notebook. However:
* Each step is described appropriately in the lab write up.
* Data is given for each required case.
(exception: lab notebook confusion may be corrected by a good report)
Fair

One or more steps are missing from at least two of the following:
* Lab notebook
* Write up description
* Results section
Poor

Substantial part of the procedure is missing, out of order, or can not be followed in any of the outputs:
* Lab notebook
* Write up description
* Results section
Lab notebook quality
1 pts

Student has created a neat and well organized notebook that shows data in tables and follows good notebook practice

Advanced

*Lab notebook methods are all followed (see handout)
*Data is well organized into labeled tables
*Comments are made where unusual things are observed
*Notes make transitions easy to follow
Good

One of the components at the left are missing or more than one shows minor problems :
*Lab notebook methods
* Data tables
* Comments
* Transitions
Fair

At least two of the components are missing or have some clear flaws:
* Lab notebook methods
* Data tables
* Comments
* Transition
Poor

More than two elements are missing or seriously flawed:
* Lab notebook methods
* Data tables
* Comments
* Transition
Lab report quality
1 pts

Lab report is complete with all sections.

Advanced

*Lab report contains all required sections
* Each section demonstrates an understanding of the section content.
* Graphs are easily interpretted and appropriately labeled
* All required lab steps are presented
Good

* One section is of the lab report is missing OR
* Some section shows a misunderstanding of what is required OR
* There are minor problems with graph presentation or labeling OR
* Some required lab steps are not presented
Fair

* More than one section of the lab report is missing but the basic structure can be followed OR
* More than one section demonstrates some misunderstanding but the general idea can be followed OR
* Graphs are there but have problems that make them hard to intepret OR
* More than one piece of the required work is missing OR
a few of these things in combination
Poor

* Basic report structure is not followed OR
* Serious misunderstanding of the intent of the sections OR
* Graphs are missing or can't be interpretted OR
* Several section of the required work are missing
Quality of Analysis
3 pts

Student demonstrates and an understanding of Ohm's Law and can relate the theory to observations

Advanced

* Write up demonstrates an understanding of the key concept.
* Differences between theory and data are observed and explanations proposed
* Unknown values are determined accurately.
* Future improvements are proposed if there were problems.
Good

One of the following were deficient or some problem occurred in two of them:
* Demonstrates key concept.
* Reconciles theory and data
* Correctly found unknown values
* Made good suggestions of improvements
Fair

Two of the following were deficient or some problem occurred in three of them:
Poor

Deficiencies were noted in three or more of the following:
* Demonstrates key concept.
* Reconciles theory and data
* Correctly found unknown values
* Made good suggestions of improvements
