The student attempts to infer what the photograph is portraying but fails to stay objective and makes more claims than are presented.
Good
The student understands that inference in photographs is based on what is clearly seen in the photograph and can express this skill.
Superior
The students inference is well developed and supported by the details in the picture. The claims are relevant and accurate.
Exceptional
The student thoroughly expresses the inference of a photograph and pulls knowledge from very small details in the photograph.

The student does not ask any questions during the evaluation of the photograph.
Fair
The student can articulate 1 very basic question to the photographer or fellow historian after analysis of the photograph.
Good
The student is able to ask 2-3 quality questions to those in the picture or the photographer or fellow historian in order to gather more information.
Superior
The student is able to ask 4-5 questions to those in the picture, the photographer, or fellow historian in order to gather information
Exceptional
The student has at least 5 or more very well developed questions for the photographer or fellow historian in order to gather quality information needed in analysis.
Overall Summary
Poor
Student does not produce an overall summary of the photograph in writing.
Fair
The student is not able to clearly write a summary of the photograph. They are able to portray the observation but not the emotion, inference or significance in history
Good
The student can articulate meaning and write an overall summary. However, there is very little detail on the emotion, inference, or significance in history.
Superior
The student is able to write a summary with few errors. They include emotion, inference, but lack significance in history.
Exceptional
The student is able to clearly and articulately write a summary of a photograph including expressing emotion, inference, observation, as well as significance in history.
