Hand Position 4 pts	Beginning Student is unable to maintain pinched fingers, relaxed but extended elbows, and a relaxed hand grip while performing on the xylophone.	Approaching Student occasionally maintains pinched fingers, relaxed but extended elbows, and a relaxed hand grip while performing on the xylophone.	Meets Expectations Student maintains pinched fingers, relaxed but extended elbows, and a relaxed hand grip while performing on the xylophone.	Exceeds Expectations Student maintains pinched fingers, relaxed but extended elbows, and a relaxed hand grip without hesitation or thought.
Mallet Playing 4 pts	Beginning Student's mallet performance is forced and does not bounce of the xylophone bar. Student only uses one hand.	Approaching Student's mallet performance fluctuates between a forced strike and a relaxed mallet strike. Student sometimes uses both hands.	Meets Expectations Student's mallet performance has a relaxed bounce off of the xylophone bar with minimal hesitation. Student is starting to consistently use both hands.
