Elevated Epics Beowulf Boast Students will create epic poems based upon people in the Bible. Students are not to use Jesus or God as main characters in the poems. Poems are to be 20 lines or more. 	Poor 5 pts	Fair 10 pts	Good 15 pts	Excellent 25 pts
Conventions	Poor Writing was less than 10 lines and used no alliteration.	Fair Writing was less than ten lines but used some alliteration.	Good Writing was 16 lines, but used no alliteration.	Excellent Writing was 20 lines or more and used some alliteration.
Kenning	Poor Writing contained no kennings.	Fair Writing contained one kenning.	Good Writing contained one kenning and at least one more attempt at a kenning.	Excellent Writing contained two kennings.
Boasting	Poor Boast was simplistic and may have addressed inappropriate topics.	Fair Boast was original and mostly appropriate. May not have addressed achievements.	Good Boast was original and appropriate. It addressed achievements.	Excellent Boast was original and appropriate. It addressed achievements and was noticably creative.
Family	Poor Writing contained no mention of family lineage.	Fair Writing contained 1 mention of family, or lineage.	Good Writing contained some mentions of lineage and location.	Excellent Writing boasted of family lineage in 2 or more places.
