CLASS ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION 2 CLASS ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION 1 Regular attendance and active class participation are expected from all students in this class. ATTENDANCE 50 %	Excellent Student was present for every class.	Very Good Student was absent for 1 class but provided instructor with an excused absence.	Good Student was absent for 2 classes but provided instructor with excused absences.	--- Student was absent for 3 or more classes but with excused absences.	Satisfactory Any 1 absence without excuse or equivalent tardiness.	Unsatisfactory Any 2 absences without excuse or equivalent tardiness.	Attendance Failure Three or more unexcused absences or equivalent tardiness.
PUNCTUALITY 50 %	Excellent Student was always on time and early for class and never left early.	Very Good Student was tardy <30 min ONCE with a documented excuse.	Good Student was tardy <30 min TWICE (*or more) with documented excuses.	--- Student was tardy <30 min ONCE without excuse.	Satisfactory Student was tardy <30 min Twice (*) with ONE documented excuse.	Unsatisfactory Student was tardy >30 min without documented excuse. Very Good Student usually contributes to class discussions and tries to initiate conversation. Volunteers answers often.	Good Student sometimes contributes to discussions and only sometimes initiates conversation. Volunteers to answer questions sometimes.	Satisfactory Student only contributes to class discussions when directly asked. Only volunteers to answer questions occasionally.	Needs Improvement Student only contributes when directly asked and rarely volunteers answers.	Unsatisfactory Student contributes reluctantly even if when directly asked and rarely if ever volunteers answers.	Participation Failure Student rarely speaks in class. Usually does not contribute to discussions. Never initiates conversation. Rarely if ever volunteers answers.
General Effort 50 %	Excellent Student clearly demonstrates excellent effort to participate in all aspects of the class. Is always well prepared and organised.	Very Good Student demonstrates very good effort to participate in the class. Is usually well prepared and organised	Good Student shows good effort to participate in the class. Is mostly organised and prepared for class.	Satisfactory Student demonstrates satisfactory effort to participate in the class. Is often well prepared and organised. Preparation 50 %	Excellent Articles were well selected and interesting. Work is very neat and well organised Article sources clearly and accurately identified. There is clear evidence that the articles were worked with very well New vocabulary identified. Evidence of comprehension.	Very Good Articles were mostly interesting. Students work is neat, tidy and clearly organised. Sources usually cited well Articled worked with well Articles vocabulary usually extracted and worked with Very good understanding of articles	Good Articles were usually interesting. Most articles clearly cited. Evidence of good working with the articles All articles have extracted vocabulary. Student demonstrates good understanding of the articles.	Satisfactory All articles worked with satisfactorily. All articles are cited with some mistakes. Delivery 50 %	Excellent Student demonstrated excellent speaking skills, knowledge and interest in the articles. Presentation were enjoyable, natural and fluent. Student spoke about the articles while referring to the text. Student frequently engaged the audience in interesting dialogue.	Very Good Student spoken skills were usually very good with only minor speaking problems. Students demonstrates interest and knowledge of the articles presented. Student often engaged the audience. Student usually spoke about the articles , reading from them directly only occasionally.	Good Student demonstrates good spoken language skills which allowed their presentations to be fluent. Student shows interest in the articles selected. While student still reads text aloud, there is genuine effort to speak naturally .	Satisfactory While spoken language skills need improvement, student still able to present articles in an intelligible way. Appropriate article selection with student showing interest. Student largely reads aloud rather than speaking about the text.	Needs Improvement Student selected material that was too difficult to present coherently. Student largely unable to produce good presentations despite best efforts.	Unstisfactory Students speaking abilities simply not sufficient to produce good presentations.	Article Work Failure Student was rarely if ever able to speak clearly or intelligibly about the articles.
