Sentence Rubric
	Level 4 4 pts	Level 3 3 pts	Level 2 2 pts	Level 1 1 pts
Capitalization	Level 4 Consistently remembers to capitalize the first word and any other appropriate words within the sentence.	Level 3 Consistently remembers to capitalize the first word of a sentence and remembers to capitalize some other appropriate words within the sentence.	Level 2 Consistently remembers to capitalize the first word of the sentence.	Level 1 The first word of the sentence is not capitalized.
punctuation	Level 4 Is able to use colons, semicolons and quotation marks appropriately.	Level 3 Adds necessary punctuation within the sentence structure.	Level 2 Consistently puts ending punctuation in writing.	Level 1 Punctuation is not used properly.
content	Level 4 The writing is purposefully clear and focused. It holds the reader's attention. The appropriate brush stroke is applied and enhances the sentence.	Level 3 The writing is mostly focused and the reader can understand the main idea. Appropriate brush stroke is used.	Level 2 Ideas are somewhat unclear or too minimal, simple, irrelevant or incomplete. Appropriate brush stroke is used.	Level 1 Author does not use appropriate brush stroke.
Neatness / Good handwriting	Level 4 Good spacing is evident throughout the writing sample.	Level 3 Few spacing errors either between words or within words make it somewhat difficult to read.	Level 2 Improper spacing between many words in the sentence and/or letters in the words make it difficult to read.	Level 1 Improper spacing between all words in the sentence or letters in each word make for very difficult to read.
grammar	Level 4 Words used in the sentence are correct all the time.	Level 3 Sentence has subject and verb agreement with 1 error.	Level 2 Sentence has both a subject and verb with 2 or more errors.	Level 1 Missing a subject or verb.
