Project displays a sound understanding of the characters, plot, and theme in the novel, but this understanding lacks depth and/or complexity of analysis. Student utilizes some elements from the novel to evaluate.

Project displays a basic understanding of the characters, plot, and theme in the novel. It does not utilize sufficient elements to demonstrate thorough analysis/evaluation of events, characters, theme, etc.

Student provides explanations as required, although they are not as detailed or accurate as desired. Only surface explanation provided instead of in-depth analysis/evaluation.
