Fair Student attempts to present ideas in a coherent order, uses some transition words, has expressed a basic understanding of the text clearly.	Good Student presents ideas in a coherent order, uses transition words appropriately, has expressed a full understanding of the text clearly.	Excellent Student has a well organized argument/summary of the text and demonstrates complete understanding of the text.
Content	Poor Student does not understand the meaning of the text, does not attempt to inference any information, does not correctly answer the guided writing questions.	Fair Student grasps some of the ideas within the text, attempts to inference information, answers some of the guided writing questions correctly.	Good Student grasps the main ideas of the text, inferences information from the text, answers all of the guided writing questions correctly.	Excellent Student has presented an original thesis about the text through inferences, and answers all of the guided questions correctly and thoroughly.
Spelling and Grammar	Poor Student uses fragmented sentences, misplaced commas, misspelled words.	Fair Student uses simple sentences, some appropriate use of commas, still has some misspelled words.	Good Student uses complex sentences, appropriate use of commas, still has a few misspelled words.	Excellent Student uses complex sentences, appropriate use of commas, and all words are spelled correctly.
Effort	Poor Student does not complete the assignment.	Fair Student completes only part of the assignment, at least half.	Good Student addresses every requirement for the assignment, but not to a thorough extent.	Excellent Student thoroughly addresses every requirement of the assignment.
