Book Discussion Book Discussion Students read the same chapter book in a group of 4-5 and ask comprehension questions in discussion. Rubric Code: HX2X6A4 By Dr_Kelly Ready to use Public Rubric Subject: English Type: Reading Grade Levels: 6-8

Literature Circles
	Poor 1 pts	Fair 2 pts	Good 3 pts
Prepared	Poor Student is unprepared	Fair Student has done the reading, but not their extra assignment.	Good Student is prepared with their reading assignment and their individual assignment.
Contributes to discussion	Poor Student contributes to discussion by asking at least one question and responding to at least one other student	Fair Student contributes to discussion by asking more than one question and responding to more than one other student	Good Students contributes to discussion with three or more questions and responding to 3 or more students
Listens attentively to others	Poor Student interrupts others and is distracted while others are reading/speaking. Does not make comments to other students	Fair Student listens attentively, does not interrupt and makes comments to at least one other student when appropriate	Good Student listens attentively, does not interrupt and makes comments to more than one other student when appropriate
Comprehension	Poor Student seems to understand the story but has trouble answering questions related to the story	Fair Students seems to understand the story and answers 1-2 questions related to the story correctly	Good Student seems to understand the story and answers all questions related to the story correctly
Facilitator	Poor Student is unable to keep the discussion going.	Fair Student does a fair job of getting everyone to participate but doesn't ask open-ended questions and is unable to maintain the focus. Everyone does not participate.	Good Student keeps the discussion going, keeps discussion focused on the appropriate topics associated with the reading assignment, and gets everyone to participate. Questions are broad and open-ended.
