Uniform width and thickness throughout the entire length of the weld.

Advanced

Bead is uniform width all along the length of each weld. Smooth appearance.
Proficient

Bead maintains width and height. Shows some small blemishes along the weld.

Not uniform through out the weld. Thickness goes to extremes.

Weld is cut off in places, not uniform along the weld. Shows bare spots.

Moderately smooth blending. Undercutting and float are present. Strength of the weld is still strong.

Float and undercut are very apparent. Weld lacks strength and flow.
Below Basic

Metal is burned through. Weld has no connection to the metal.

Full size weld from beginning to end. Crater well filled

Advanced

The start is uniform, no signs of rod fusion. End of weld is complete, does not taper off. Crater is full.
Proficient

Uniform start with some signs of rod fusion. Ending is full but some tapering and a crater is present.

Start is globular with distinct signs of rod fusion. Crater distinctly present at the end of the bead.
Below Basic

Start is globular and separated with pieces of rod fused to surface. Metal is burned through at the end.
