Journal Article Reflection This rubric is designed to evaluate a student's reflection on an assigned journal article.
	Poor A poor job of providing the required information is performed by the writer. 0 pts	Fair The assigned category needs work. 1 pts	Good The writer does a good job applying the category to the journal article. 2 pts	Excellent The writer completely covers all required information. 3 pts
Citation, journal and grammar. The reference citation is made using APA 6th edition guidelines. The article is current (published within the last 5 years) and comes from a peer-reviewed Nursing journal. Good grammar and spelling are used throughout the summary.	Poor No attempt is made at referencing according to APA guidelines. The article is neither current or from a peer-reviewed Nursing journal. The writer's use of grammar is very poor and/or there are numerous spelling errors throughout the summary.	Fair The reference citation has more than one error as it is written. The article is not current or the journal is not peer-reviewed. There are numerous grammar and spelling errors throughout the summary.	Good The reference citation has one error. The article is both current and from a peer reviewed Nursing journal. There are some spelling and grammar errors throughout the summary.	Excellent No errors exist in the citation. The article is both current and from a peer reviewed Nursing journal. No errors exist in grammar or spelling.
Summary A brief summary of the article is included, identifying the author(s) key points.	Poor No summary is given. The author(s) key points are not identified.	Fair A summary of the article is attempted, but is severly lacking in more than one area. The author(s) key points are poorly identified.	Good A summary of the article is provided, but is lacking in one area. The author(s) key points are clearly identified but not well developed.	Excellent A brief summary of the article is given with all the required information. The author(s) key points are clearly identified and well developed.
Implications The reflection contains information on how this topic might apply to the nursing practice in general, &/or to the student's own professional practice.	Poor No implications are mentioned.	Fair One implication is mentioned, but is poorly developed in the reflection.	Good One or more implications are given and are sufficently clarified.	Excellent Implications are clearly explicated and student has thoughtfully demonstrated the integration of this new knowledge into the nursing profession.
