Beginner Guitar Assessment Evaluate the progress of the student based on the following criteria.

Guitar Basics Parts of the guitar Tuning Open String recognition Instrument use	Not Applicable Does not apply	Needs Improvement Student does not have knowledge of the different parts of the guitar, can not tune the guitar with a tuner, and does not know the note names of the open strings in standard tuning. Student does not handle the guitar with care.	Good Student has some knowledge of parts of the guitar, is able to tune the guitar with a tuner and assistance, and know some of the open string note names. Student handles the guitar with some care.	Very Good Student is capable of naming the parts of the guitar with ease, able to to tune the guitar with a tuner and without assistance, and knows each open string note. Student handles the guitar with care.	Excellent Student excels at guitar basics. They are able to describe the parts of the guitar and their purpose, able to tune the guitar without assistance (with or without a tuner), and knows each open string note. Student handles the guitar with great care.

Tone Quality Cleanliness of sound	Not Applicable Does not apply	Needs Improvement Student applies too little pressure or fingers are misplaced causing buzzing most of the time.	Good Student occasionally applies too little pressure or fingers are misplaced. Tone is not affected detracting from playing.	Very Good Student consistently applies adequate pressure and fingers are placed properly. Student produces a good sound.	Excellent Student demonstrates outstanding tone quality and sound.
