Ideas and Topic Development	Poor Fails to communicate the topic.	Fair Communicates a point of view, but may be vague or merely echo previous posts without contributing original ideas or support in response to the question and/or statement made in class.	Good Communicates an original point of view, using adequate support in response to the question and/or statement made in class.	Excellent Communicates a sophisticated and original point of view in response to the question and/or statement made in class. The student uses strong support to showcase their ideas and uses references as appropriate.
Contribution to Learning Community	Poor Makes limited effort to engage with the group; posts off topic.	Fair Does not reference any specific classmates; fails to acknowledge the ongoing discussion.	Good Respectfully references at least one classmate's work; does not disrupt the flow of the group discussion.	Excellent Meaningfully and respectfully references at least one classmate; attempts to motivate the group discussion with new and creative approaches.
GUM (grammar, usage, mechanics)	Poor Extensive errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation obscure meaning; post is late or fails to meet length requirements.
