	Needs Improvement 1 pts	Fair 2 pts	Good 3 pts
Rate	Needs Improvement Student reads at a slow, laborious rate.	Fair Student reads text either too quickly or with uncomfortable pauses. Many words are sounded out.	Good Student reads text with smooth, conversational, comfortable rate.
Accuracy	Needs Improvement Student makes numerous errors or asks for help. Errors are not self-corrected.	Fair Students makes occasional errors that do not affect meaning (character names, place names, etc.) Other errors are few.	Good Student makes zero errors. Any miscues are self-corrected.
Phrasing	Needs Improvement No evidence of phrasing. Student reads word-by-word or sounds out the majority of words.	Fair Student reads 2-3 word phrases.	Good Student reads longer phrases smoothly. The student varies the length of phrases appropriately for impact.
Expression	Needs Improvement Student reads with a monotone voice. No evidence of attention to punctuation.	Fair Student pauses at ending punctuation. Tone of voice is consistent throughout text.	Good Student pays close attention to punctuation, including commas. The student varies voice or pitch to match text.
Volume	Needs Improvement Student reads at an extremely loud or soft level.	Fair Volume is appropriate throughout text.	Good Student adjusts volume throughout text for dramatic impact.
