Freestyle
	Beginner 1 pts	Intermediate 2 pts	Advanced 3 pts	Expert 4 pts
Body position	Beginner Body (head and legs) submerged; head pops up while breathing.	Intermediate Legs submerged at 30 degree angle; ear not on water while breathing.	Advanced Legs submerged at 15 degree angle, at least some of the time; ear almost on water while breathing.	Expert Body horizontal and ear on the water while breathing.
Kick	Beginner Knees bent significantly with feet flexed and either exaggerated splash or no splash (none of requirements met).	Intermediate One of three requirements met.	Advanced Two of three requirements met.	Expert Slight knee bend, small splash, relaxed feet.
Arms	Beginner Arms not clearing the water and not maintaining any consistent rhythm. Elbows are straight (none of requirements met).	Intermediate One of three requirements met.	Advanced Two of three requirements met.	Expert Proper rhythm (arm out/arm in), elbow up for most of the stroke, and arms clearing the water every stroke.
Overall	Beginner Swimmer does not look comfortable in the water. Swimmer is not able to finish 25m freestyle.	Intermediate Swimmer struggles with the freestyle stroke and is not able to finish 25m without stopping frequently.	Advanced Swimmer looks somewhat comfortable in the water. Can finish 25m freestyle with short breaks.	Expert Swimmer looks comfortable and relaxed in water. Can finish 25m freestyle without stopping.
