Comprehension	Does Not Meet Expectations Student did not comprehend the story. Is not able to summarize at least one book that was read to them.	Meets Expectations Students were able to understand most of the stories that were read to them. They maybe be able to explain what happened in some of the storis but not all.	Exceeds expectations Students were able to fully understand and comprehend the books that were being read to them. They can provide a summary of what happened in each book.
Writing	Does Not Meet Expectations Student did not write in journal when asked. Student wrote less than what was asked of them in their journals.	Meets Expectations Student was able to independently write in their journal about most of the stories with some minor mistakes. Student stayed on topic with the prompts given.	Exceeds expectations Student completed every single journal entry with little to no mistakes. Student was able to stay on topic and completely answer prompts given with examples from the book or real life experiences.
Applying Knowledge	Does Not Meet Expectations Student can not or has a very hard time completing activities demanded of them. Can not recall info from book to explain a summary of it.	Meets Expectations Student was able to complete most activities based on the info gained from books.	Exceeds expectations Student was able to complete the different activities based on information gained in books and personal experience. Student can use different strategies to explain information from the book.
Participation	Does Not Meet Expectations Student did not complete any or few of the assignment. Did not memorize lines for the play. Did not bring materials needed.	Meets Expectations Student completed most of the entries, memorized the lines for the play with very little mistakes. Student brought most of the materials they were asked.	Exceeds expectations Student completed journal entries, memorized lines for the play, brought in proper materials when asked to. Student was engaged most of the time.
