Response Quality	Excellent Responses are fully developed and strongly on-topic.	Average Responses are well developed and remain on-topic for the most part.	Unacceptable Responses are somewhat developed and remain on-topic some of the time.
Interpretation	Excellent Exceptional understanding of the whole text; Interpretation is perceptive and well-supported with examples from the text.	Average Basic understanding of the whole text; interpretation is thoughtful and supported with some examples from the text.	Unacceptable Some understanding of portions of the text/text as a whole; interpretation lacks insight and/or support from the text.
Completion	Excellent Response contains 6 or more sentences.	Average Response contains 3-4 sentences.	Unacceptable Response contains 2 sentences.
Effort	Excellent Journal shows outstanding effort and neatness; contains several illustrations to demonstrate understanding.
