APPRENTICE

Performance reveals some thought put into what the character's motivation and emotional state might be. Portrayal of motivation, emotion, and relationships can go deeper and be more specific.
PROFICIENT

Performance reveals proficient understanding of character motivation, emotion, and relationship to other characters.
MASTER

Performance reveals deep and thorough analysis of character motivation and emotion, as well as the character's relationship with other characters.

APPRENTICE

Script and acting show understanding of explicit text meaning, as well as personal interpretation. Understanding is revealed through use of literary devices and language.
MASTER

Script and acting show strong and thorough understanding of explicit text meaning as well as thoughtful interpretation. Deep understanding is revealed through use of literary devices and connotative language.
Voice and Performance

BEGINNER

Lack of effort to portray character through voice and movement.
APPRENTICE

Actor speaks the chararacter's lines and uses some movement, but voice could be used more effectively and/or there should be more movement.
PROFICIENT

Actor adequately portrays the character using voice and movement.

Actor convincingly portrays the character using voice and movement effectively.
Collaboration

SL.9-10.1

BEGINNER

Student is off task, not involved, late in completion of responsibilities, and/or unhelpful to group members.
APPRENTICE

Student works collaboratively with peers during some of the process. Student may sometimes be off-task, but still contributes ideas, does a portion of the work, and treats peers acceptably.
PROFICIENT

Student works with peers productively throughout most of the process, engaging in discussions, including peers, and contributing to the completion of group goals.
MASTER

Student works well with peers throughout the process, facilitates collegial discussions, encourages peer involvement, and contributes meaningfully to the successful completion of group goals.
