Accuracy	Unsatisfactory No recognizable scale is present.	Needs Improvement Many notes are incorrect - student seems unfamiliar with the scale.	Satisfactory Shows a good feel for the notes, but there are repeated mistakes in pitch. Intonation has not developed appropriately.	Good Mostly correct with a few errors. There may be small intonation problems.	Excellent Pitches are correct and intonation has a characteristic quality sound in all registers.
Tone Quality	Unsatisfactory Sound is totally lacking in quality due to a poorly formed or weak embouchure/grip and/or no breath support.	Needs Improvement Limited projection - tone is poor or range is limited due to the need for a stronger embouchure and/or breath support.	Satisfactory Fair use of projection and fullness of tone. There may be room for improvement in posture, embouchure & breath support.	Good Considerable use of projection and fullness of tone but still somewhat short of a mature sound.	Excellent Tone is full and well projected. A truly characteristic sound for the instrument.
Rhythm and Tempo Accuracy	Unsatisfactory No evidence of steady pulse	Needs Improvement Pulse is unstable with major rhythmic errors.	Satisfactory Pulse is fairly steady but there are frequent or repeated small rhythmic errors.	Good Steady pulse with few rhythmic errors.	Excellent Steady pulse with accurate rhythms at all times.
