Capitalization / Punctuation	Above Grade Level The writing is free of errors in capitalization, punctuation and indentation.	On Grade Level The writing has 1 or 2 errors in capitalization, punctuation and indentation.	Approaching Grade Level The writing has 3 or more errors in capitalization, punctuation and the indentation is missing.	Below Grade Level The writing has 5 or more errors in capitalization, punctuation and the indentation is missing.
Main Idea & Details	Above Grade Level The main idea of the picture is clear with many supporting details.	On Grade Level The main idea of the picture is clear with some supporting details.	Approaching Grade Level The main idea of the picture is somewhat clear with no supporting details.	Below Grade Level The main idea of the picture is not clear with no supporting details.
Grammar	Above Grade Level The writing contains proper use of verb tense and plurals. Use of descriptive language adds to text.	On Grade Level The writing contains 1 or 2 errors in use of verb tense or plurals. Some use of descriptive language adds to the text.	Approaching Grade Level The writing contains 3 or more errors in use of verb tense or plurals. Few descriptive words are used.
