Research 30 %	Excellent Student finds a total of 5 or more solid sources, complete with notes, quotes for evidence and citations. Research journal is more than 3 pages long.	Good Student finds a total of 3-4 solid sources, complete with notes, quotes for evidence and citations. Research journal is 2-3 pages long.	Fair Student finds a total of 3 sources, though one may be weak or irrelevant. Students notes lack effort, but there are quotes for evidence and citations. Research journal is 1-2 pages long.	Poor Student finds a total of 3, but most are irrelevant and weak. Student's notes are sparse and unhelpful, and the may have quotes for evidence and citations. Research journal is less than 2 pages long.
Thesis Statement 30 %	Excellent Student composes a well thought out thesis statement, concisely outlining the proposed argument. Student has a clear direction and understands their place in the argument.	Good Student composes a thesis statement, outlining the proposed argument. Student has some direction and understands their place in the argument.	Fair Student composes a weak thesis statement, somewhat outlining the proposed argument. Student has some direction, but may not understand their place in the argument.	Poor Student composes a weak, tautological, or irrelevant thesis statement. Student has little to no direction and does not understand their place in the argument.
Participation 40 %	Excellent Student remains on task for 95-100% of the project and aids classmates where they need to.	Good Student remains on task for 85% of the project.	Fair Student remains on task for 70% percent of the project	Poor Student remains on task for 50% of the project.
