Topic and Title	A You have chosen a topic that interests, challenges, or amuses you emotionally and/or intellectually. Your title captures your reader’s attention, informs the piece, and is original/creative.	A- You have chosen a topic that interests, challenges, or amuses you emotionally and/or intellectually. Your title captures your reader’s attention and informs the piece.	B You have chosen a topic that interests, challenges, or amuses you emotionally and/or intellectually. Your title is general or vague.	B- Your topic seems to lack emotional or intellectual quality in some areas. Your title is general or vague.	C Your topic is cliche or vague, as is your title.	Poor/Undeveloped You do not focus on a single topic. Your title is missing or is the name or the assignment.
Voice	A Your writing voice is fresh, distinct, and consistent.	A- Evident awareness of voice and audience	B Some awareness of voice and audience	B- Some awareness of voice and audience, but inconsistent.	C Attempt at voice evident, but unsuitable for the piece or audience.	Poor/Undeveloped Mechanical/unsuitable voice; unaware of audience.
Details/Structure	A Specific details engage the senses. Your intro engages; your ending satisfies. Paragraph or stanza breaks used intelligently. Character or reader is somehow different at the end than at the beginning. Good flow.	A- Missing one or two things from A level.	B Criteria met with a few areas that need strengthening (deciding which sections of the story to slow down and expand and which to summarize, developing characters with detail and dialogue, weaving in the setting, etc.)	B- Missing one or two additional things from B level.
