Meaning and Originality	Advanced Poems is creative and original. It is evident that the poet put thought into their words and innovatively conveyed their ideas and emotions.	Proficient Poem is thoughtful and creative. A couple of phrases or ideas may be revisited, but the overall product is carefully written.	Basic The poem is creative, but appears to be rushed.	Below Basic Poem appears to be thoughtless or rushed. Work is very repeptitive and ideas or impersonal or unoriginal.
Form:	Advanced Poem is complete and follows its intended form.	Proficient Poem is mostly written in the proper form.	Basic Poem is somewhat written in the proper form.	Below Basic Poem is not written in the proper form
Grammar	Advanced Proper use of modern English spelling and grammar is employed consistently throughout the poem.	Proficient A couple of spelling or grammar mistakes are evident, but do not diminish the meaning of the poem.	Basic The poet's intended meaning is muddled by several spelling or grammar errors.	Below Basic There are numerous spelling or grammar errors, making the poem difficult to understand.
Attractiveness	Advanced The poem is exceptionally attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness. The illustration is appropriate and adds interest to the poem.	Proficient The poem is attractive in terms of design, layout and neatness. The illustration and detail is appropriate for the poem.	Basic The poem is acceptably attractive though it may be a bit messy. The illustration is appropriate but without much detail.	Below Basic The poem is distractingly messy or very poorly designed. The illustration is not appropriate for the poem.
Writing Process	Advanced Student clearly utilizes prewriting, drafting, revising and editing in writing the piece.	Proficient Student shows some evidence of either prewriting, drafting or revising and editing, but leaves a step out.	Basic Student shows very little evidence of prewriting, drafting or revising and editing. Leaves more than 1 step out.	Below Basic Student shows no evidence of prewriting, drafting or revising and editing.
