Topic Sentences	Excellent 18-20 Paragraph has a clear topic sentence for each paragraph that summarizes the main idea.	Good 16-17 Paragraph has a somewhat clear topic sentence for each paragraph.	Fair 13-15 Paragraph has a somewhat vague topic sentence for each paragraph or is missing a topic sentence for each paragraph.	Poor 12-0 Paragraph has no clear topic sentences.
Supporting Details	Excellent 18-20 Paragraph(s) have two or more supporting detail sentences that relate back to the main idea.	Good 16-17 Paragraph(s) have one supporting detail sentences that relate back to the main idea.	Fair 13-15 Paragraph(s) have one supporting detail sentence that somewhat relate back to the main idea.	Poor 12-0 Paragraph(s) have no supporting detail sentences that relate back to the main idea.
Logic/Text examples	Excellent 18-20 Answer shows reflective thought, and text examples or support have been provided throughout.	Good 16-17 Answer shows thought, and text examples or support have been provided occasionally.	Fair 13-15 Answer shows thought, and text examples or support have been provided minimally.	Poor 12-0 Answer does not show reflective thought, and text examples or support have not been provided throughout.
Mechanics and Grammar	Excellent 18-20 Paragraph has no errors in punctuation, grammar, capitalization, and spelling.
