Structure (5)	Exemplary The topic sentence clearly answers the question stated in the prompt and then the paragraph sticks with it. The order is logical with good use of transitions. The paragraph is 5-8 sentences.	Proficient The topic sentence answers the question in the prompt, but could be more clear. Some transitions are used and the order is mostly logical. The paragraph is 5 sentences.	Approaching The topic sentence vaguely answers the question or is more than one sentence. The order of the paragraph is a little unclear or jumps around a little; few transitions are used. The paragraph is 4 or 9 sentences.	Developing There is not a clear topic sentence. The order is confusing. The paragraph may answer multiple prompts. There are 3 or fewer sentences or 10 or more.
Compound Sentences (15)	Exemplary All three types of compound sentences are used accurately with two independent clauses: , and conjunction, ; , ; and adverbial conjunction.	Proficient All three types are included, but one has inaccurate punctuation.
