GOOD FIT BOOK

Student chooses a book that is appropriate to reading level.

The student 80% of the time chooses a just right book evident by reading multiple pages each session, demonstrating comprehension in a retell, and identifying a minimum of 2-3 words he/she doesn't know per page.

The student 75-80% of the time chooses a just right book but may need direction and reminders to pick an appropriate book. Student may at times show inconsistency with books such as not completing one before picking another or needing redirection when picking a too hard or easy book.

Student picks different books too frequently and they are often too easy or too hard for the student. The student often gives up a book after a few pages and then starts a new one. Very few pages are read withing a reading session.

Student makes little or no effort to choose and read a book. Student often "fake-reads" staying on a page for a long period of time, eyes wander and behavior clearly demonstrates no engagement or interaction with the text.
