Character Analysis Character Analysis;Five Paragraph Essay Your literary analysis essay will focus on a specific character from the story. Choose one character that (in your opinion) affected the plot of the story. Think about how this character's actions or reactions, created complications or resolutions. Introduction/Thesis	1 Introduction does not introduce required information and does not present a clear thesis.	3 Introduction is missing one or more elements and/or the thesis is unclear or incomplete	5 Introduction names the character, book title and author. Thesis contains a strong statement about the main idea about the character.
Character analysis	1 Many elements of the analysis are missing. Ideas are incomplete and unclear and are missing textual evidence.	3 Some elements of the character analysis are missing and/or are not supported by sufficient textual evidence (direct quotes) and concrete detail.	5 All elements of the character analysis are present (physical description, personality traits, desires, relationships, conflicts, theme). Ideas are clear and well supported by textual evidence (direct quotes) and concrete detail.
Conclusion	1 The conclusion does not refer to the original thesis and offers weak insight into the character.	3 The conclusion is either missing a restatement of the thesis or it shows some weaknesses in insight into the character.	5 The conclusion restates the thesis and includes insightful commentary that shows why this character is essential to the story.
Organization, grammar, spelling	1 The essay is missing logical paragraph breaks and ideas are disorganized. There are multiple spelling and/or grammatical errors, or abbreviations were used in place of complete spelling.	3 Paragraphs are missing some logical flow and ideas are somewhat disorganized. There are some spelling and grammatical errors.	5 Paragraphs flow logically. and ideas are cohesive. Essay is free of spelling and grammatical errors.
