Student consistently wears a helmet without reminders, is aware of edges and the need to be protected around edges, completes belayer/climber checks consistently and correctly.
Exceeding Expectations

Student wears a helmet at every site, independently protects self when approaching an edge, always performs checks correctly, and can identify aspects of a climbing site that are unsafe and can suggest ways to reduce risk.

Approaching

Student chooses and ties appropriate knots, hitches or bends for a particular task, only with consistent reminders and supervision.

Student chooses and ties appropriate knots, hitches or bends for a particular task without instructor intervention or reminders.
Exceeding Expectations

Student chooses, ties and can teach appropriate knots, hitches or bends for a particular task. Student can name and demonstrate multiple different knots, hitches or bends for the same task.
Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

Approaching

When given a scenario, student can only explain and/or demonstrate appropriate actions with consistent guidance from an instructor.
Meeting Expectations

When given a scenario, student can explain and/or demonstrate appropriate actions with very little guidance from an instructor.
Exceeding Expectations

When given a scenario, student can explain and/or demonstrate appropriate actions with no guidance from an instructor as well as give examples or demonstrate multiple appropriate actions for a single scenario.
