Narrative Writing Rubric
	Getting Started 1 pts	On My Way 2 pts	WOW!! 3 pts
Spelling	Getting Started I sounded out words by stretching them out and writing what I heard. My words have beginning and ending consonants and some vowels.	On My Way I used the word wall to write many high frequency words correctly. Words that I sounded out are closer to the real spelling (have word endings, blends and vowel patterns.	WOW!! My writing has most words spelled correctly and the reader can easily read what I wrote.
Sentences/Meaning	Getting Started My writing has at least one simple sentence about the topic. I have a picture about my topic.	On My Way My writing has several sentences about the topic that have some detail and descrbing words. My pictures have lots of detail.	WOW!! I have several sentences and a picture that tell interesting information and details about the topic.
Story Order	Getting Started My story does not have a clear order.	On My Way My story has an order with a beginning, middle and end.	WOW!! My story has a beginning, middle and end with lots of details.
Punctuation/Capitals	Getting Started I did not use punctuation (periods or question marks). Capital letters are not used correctly.	On My Way I used punctuation and capital letters with some mistakes.	WOW!! My writing has correct use of capital letters and punctuation.
Printing/Neatness	Getting Started Some of my letters are scribbly or backwards. Writing is run together without spaces.	On My Way My letters are mostly formed correctly and there are spaces between words.	WOW!! My writing is neat, well spaced and easy to read.
