Good There are characters in the story, but their purpose is not clearly identified. They may seem to "argue" instead of work toward a solution.	Excellent The characters chosen are clearly identified in the story. There is dialog, and the characters are working toward a goal.
Problem	Poor There is no problem identified.	Fair The problem has nothing to do with the nonfiction story.	Good The problem seems to match a problem from the nonfiction story.	Excellent The problem in the fictional story clearly matches a problem from the nonfiction story.
Understanding	Poor There is no connection.	Fair There is little connection between the fiction and the nonfiction facts.	Good There is somewhat of a connection between the fiction and the nonfiction facts.	Excellent There is a clear connection between the fictional story and the nonfiction facts.
