Organization	Poor Lacks the structure of a letter. Does not follow a logical sequence.	Fair Structure of the letter is developed reasonably, but lacks clarity. Only one element of a letter is missing. Sequence jumps around.	Good Structure of the letter is clearly developed and includes the date, a salutation, and closing. Sequence of information is easy to follow.
Content	Poor Letter does not include the tough life issue and reader does not feel as though they need to learn more about the author. Questions from class are not answered.	Fair Letter touches on the tough life issue and the reader is slightly compelled to learn more about this author. Most of the questions presented in class are answered.	Good Letter meaningfully discusses the tough life issue from the student's novel choice. The reader is compelled and feels as though they MUST learn more about this author. All questions presented in class are answered.
