Exaggeration	Exceeds 3 or more examples of exaggeration given	Meets 1 or 2 examples of exaggeration given	Does Not Meet No examples of exaggeration given.
Main Character	Exceeds Character is always the strongest, bravest, or smartest.	Meets Character sometimes is the strongest, bravest, or smartest.	Does Not Meet Character is never the strongest, bravest, or smartest character.
Setting	Exceeds The setting is vividly described. The reader can picture the scenes well.	Meets Some of the elements of setting are present. The reader has some idea of time and place.	Does Not Meet The setting is not vivid. It is hard to picture where or when the story is taking place.
Problem	Exceeds The problem is clear throughout the tall tale.	Meets The problem is somewhat apparent, but not clearly defined throughout the tall tale.	Does Not Meet There is no clear problem in the tall tale.
End	Exceeds The character solves a problem, overcomes an obstacle, or defeats a "bad guy."	Meets The character tries to solve the problem, overcome an obstacle, or defeat a "bad guy", but fails.	Does Not Meet The character does not solve a problem, overcome an obstacle, or defeat a "bad guy."
