Compare/Contrast Essay:TLF Book to movie Compare/Contrast Essay:TLF Book to movie The purpose of this rubric is to allow the student to know what the expectations are for writing a comparing/contrasting essay. Grammar & Punctuation	Excellent All sentences begin with a capital letter. All sentences have the correct end marks.	Good Most sentences begin with a capital letter. Most sentences have the correct end marks.	Fair Few, if any sentences start with a capital letter. Few, if any of the sentences have the correct end mark.	Poor None of the sentences start with a capital letter. None of the sentences have the correct end mark.
Vocabulary	Excellent Vocabulary - i.e., word choice is strong and shows understanding of the meaning.	Good Most vocabulary words are used appropriately	Fair Vocabulary - i.e., word choice is weak and doesn't show understanding of the meaning.	Poor Word choice is unclear and doesn't make sense in the sentences.
Sentence Structure	Excellent Sentences are of an appropriate length, make sense, and is free of subject/verb disagreements.	Good Sentences are of an appropriate length, mostly make sense, but there are some subject/verb disagreements.	Fair Essay contains many errors which are distracting to the reader.	Poor Essay is unreadable due to too many errors.

Good There are at least 3 paragraphs, and it mostly flows and makes sense.	Fair There are 2 paragraphs: one that compares and one that contrasts.	Poor There isn't any real form or format to this essay.
