	Poor A poor job of providing the required information is performed by the writer. 0 pts	Fair The assigned category needs work. 2 pts	Good The writer does a good job applying their clinical experience to the journal article. 4 pts	Excellent The writer completely covers all required information. 5 pts
APA reference citation and grammar. The article is correctly referenced according to APA 6th edition guidelines. The writer uses standard English and correct grammar throughout the reflection.	Poor No attempt is made at referencing according to APA 6th edition guidelines.	Fair The reference citation has more than one error as it is written. There are numerous grammar and spelling errors.	Good The reference citation has one error. There are some spelling and grammar errors throughout the journal entry	Excellent No errors exist in the citation or in grammar and spelling.
Summary A brief summary of the article is included in the reflection.	Poor No summary is given.	Fair A summary of the article is attempted, but is severely lacking in more than one area.	Good A summary of the article is provided, but is lacking in one area.	Excellent A brief summary of the article is given with all the required information.
Implications The reflection contains information on how this topic might apply to nursing.	Poor No implications are mentioned.	Fair One implication is mentioned, but is poorly developed in the reflection.	Good One or more implications are given and are sufficiently clarified.	Excellent Implications are clearly discussed and demonstrate critical thinking skills
Personal experiences The writer shares a personal experience they have had with the topic of the journal article in the clinical experience.	Poor No personal experiences are given.	Fair Personal experiences are poorly developed in the reflection.	Good Personal experiences are clearly mentioned and expanded on.	Excellent The personal experiences of the writer are fully explained and relate to the topic of the journal article
Clinical objectives The learner relates how the article is meeting the clinical objectives.	Poor No clinical objectives are discussed.	Fair No specific clinical objectives are mentioned, general descriptions only are discussed.	Good Reflection relates how the practicum experience is meeting the clinical objectives, but does not provide specific examples, or note which objective is being met.	Excellent Reflection clearly relates how the practicum experience is meeting the clinical objectives through describing a specific example & noting the specific objective.
