Good Student response has at least two paragraphs. A summary and response to discussion question using 2 pieces of textual evidence.	Fair Student response has at least two paragraphs. A summary and response to open ended question using 1 piece of textual evidence.	Poor Student response has one or fewer paragraphs. A summary and/or response to discussion question using no or inaccurate textual evidence.
Supporting Evidence	Excellent Student response has three examples which support the ideas stated. This means either quoting the text directly or paraphrasing something a character says or does.	Good Student response has at least two examples which support the ideas stated. This means either quoting the text directly or paraphrasing something a character says or does.	Fair Student response has at least one example to support the idea stated and/or support given in not clear. This means either quoting the text directly or paraphrasing something a character says or does.	Poor Student response does not have any examples to support their ideas.
Language and Conventions	Excellent Reading response is written with strong vocabulary and sentence structure. A consistent use of punctuation and appropriate and capitalization is demonstrated.	Good Reading response is written with strong sentence structure and vocabulary. Grade appropriate punctuation and capitalization is usually demonstrated.	Fair Sentence structure and vocabulary is continuing to develop. Some use of grade appropriate puctuation and capitalization is demonstrated.
