Poetry Writing Rubric
	Getting Started 1 pts	On My Way 2 pts	WOW!! 3 pts
Words	Getting Started I used ordinary words that are not very interesting. My meaning is confusing to the reader.	On My Way I used some some interesting words. My words tell what I mean.	WOW!! I used just the right words that make clear pictures in the reader's head.
Rhythm	Getting Started My words do not have rhythm. They sound like ordinary reading.	On My Way My words have some rhythm and sound like poetry.	WOW!! The rhythm helps tell the meaning and makes the poetry fun to read.
Feelings	Getting Started The reader of my poem can't tell what my feelings are.	On My Way The reader can connect with what I wrote and understand my feelings.	WOW!! The reader has a strong emotional response with my poem that makes them feel my meaning.
Format	Getting Started I used words that show little or no evidence of writing with poetic form.	On My Way I used poetic form with some success in my writing.	WOW!! I showed strong use of poetic form in my writing.
Printing/Neatness	Getting Started My writing is sloppy and hard to read.	On My Way Some of my writing is neat, well spaced, and easy to read.	WOW!! Most of my writing is neat, well spaced and easy to read.
