Beginning

Student presents an overview of the issues and minimal inferences based on researched information to demonstrate some understanding of the issue.
Proficient
Student presents interesting information with some meaningful inferences about the issues & what he/she has learned.
Advanced
Student presents engaging information in a synthesized manner to demonstrate personal thinking about the information. Inferences show deeper grasp of the issues.

Not enough information presented to demonstrate understanding of assignment OR no presentation completed.
Beginning
Audience cannot understand presentation because there is no sequence of information. Weak or no attention getter.
Progressing
Audience has difficulty following presentation because presenter jumps around. Information presented may or may not follow slides. Attention getter may not allow audience to focus on topic.
Proficient
Presenter presents information in logical sequence which audience can follow. Good attention getter.
Advanced
Student presents information in logical, interesting sequence which audience can follow. Strong attention getter captures audience attention immediately.

Student merely presents facts and/or statistics and does not really focus on the complexity of the issue.

Student presents basic information and examples from the text which demonstrate surface understanding but does not really fully explain the issue.

Student presents some information that indicates understanding/inference of issues. Some deep thinking demonstrated.
Advanced
Student demonstrates full understanding of issues and how they affect individuals and/or society. Is able to fully explain with elaboration.
Graphics
Not Demonstrated
Not visually appealing; slide contents just what is spoken.
Beginning
Student's use of graphics or slides is either not visually appealing or is hard to read. May contain too much information or presenter may rely on them too much.
Progressing
Student has used graphics or layout that support text but that are pretty basic. May enhance presentation only slightly.
Proficient
Student presentation has layout and graphics that are visually appealing, relate to issue, and add to the understanding of material being presented.
Advanced
Student presentation is visually and graphically appealing and layout enhances understanding of material being presented.
Mechanics

Presentation consists of only pictures or graphics OR it contains more than four spelling/grammar errors. Speaker makes more than four grammatical errors.

Student faces the board or screen during entire presentation, basically showing back to the audience OR no presentation completed.
Beginning
Student reads all of report with little to no eye contact with most areas of the audience.
Progressing
Student occasionally uses eye contact, or only looks at certain areas of the audience, but still reads most of report.
Proficient
Student maintains eye contact most of the time with all areas of the audience but frequently returns to notes.
Advanced
Student maintains eye contact with all areas of the audience, seldom returning to notes.
Elocution and Time

No presentation completed, does not make time.
Beginning
Student mumbles, uses an inappropriate pace, incorrectly pronounces terms, and speaks too quietly for the audience to hear or is too dependent upon slides. Makes minimum time.
Progressing
Student's voice is low and/or the student speaks too quickly or slowly often enough to distract the audience. Student incorrectly pronounces names. Audience members have difficulty hearing presentation. Makes minimum time.
Proficient
Student's voice is clear and the pace is appropriate to the presentation. Student pronounces most words correctly. Most audience members can hear presentation. Student goes beyond minimum time but does not exceed time limit.
Advanced
Student uses a clear voice and appropriate pace, as well as correct, precise pronunciation of terms so that all audience members can hear presentation. Student goes beyond minimum time but does not exceed time limit.
