This rubric will be used to assess all poems written by students. Not all criteria will be assessed for each poem. Students will be informed as to which criteria will be assessed for specific poems. (* Criteria with an asterisk will always be assessed)

Clearly focused to convey a mood or tone such as surprise, humour, anger, nostalgia, etc.

A strong impression of mood/tone is experienced by the listener. Emotions are touched or stirred.
Level 3 (70-79%)

An attempt to create a certain mood or tone is evident and somewhat successful.
Level 2 (60-69%)

The poem does not evoke a strong emotional response for the listener.

Connection to self and revealing of experiences.

Level 4 (80-100%)

Poem peels away layers of get at the truth about something of interest to the writer/listener.

The oral presentation of the poem is engagin, satisfying, and entertaining.

Parts of the poem appeal to the listener when heard aloud.
Level 2 (60-69%)

The oral presentation is not a notable feature of the poem.
