	Poor 1 pts	Fair 2 pts	Good 3 pts	Exceeds Expectations 4 pts
Power One The introduction of the topic.	Poor Does not include Power One at the beginning of the paragraph.	Fair Includes a Power One, but is weak.	Good Includes Power One. Starts the paragraph strongly.	Exceeds Expectations Power One is strong and interesting. Opening sentence grabs the reader's attention.
Power Twos The subtopics	Poor Contains only one subtopic which is not well explained.	Fair Contains two subtopics which are explained briefly.	Good Contains three subtopics relevant to the subject.	Exceeds Expectations Contains three subtopics which are relevant to the topic and are interesting.
Power Threes The supporting details	Poor No supporting details are included.	Fair Few supporting details are included.	Good Supporting details are included for each subtopic.	Exceeds Expectations The supporting details for each subtopic are compelling and interesting. They clearly relate to the subtopic.
Power Four The concluding sentence	Poor Does not include a Power Four at the end of the paragraph.	Fair Includes a Power Four, but is weak	Good Included a Power Four. Ends the paragraph strongly.	Exceeds Expectations Power Four is strong and interesting. Summarizes the paragraph.
Transitions and Organization	Poor Paragraph seems disorganized with few transitions.	Fair Paragraph is somewhat organized and some transitions are included.	Good Organization is solid and transitions are included.	Exceeds Expectations Organization and transitions are natural and fluent. Paragraph flows well.
Mechanics	Poor There are three or more capitalization, spelling or punctuation errors.	Fair There are two capitalization, spelling or punctuation errors.	Good There is one capitalization, spelling or punctuation errors.	Exceeds Expectations There are no capitalization, spelling or punctuation errors.
