Student is hardly ever disruptive during class and is usually listening to the band director's instructions.
Excellent

Student is never disruptive during class and participates in class daily, listening to others in the band and to the band director.
Musicality

tempo, dynamics, articulation (style)

Poor

Student rarely uses dynamics and/or follows indications of style or tempo.
Basic

Student's use of dynamics is hardly noticeable and/or playing is inconsistent in tempo or style.
Good

Student displays ability to play with correct dynamics, tempo and style with only minor errors.
Excellent

Student consistently plays with appropriate dynamics, tempo and style in a way that would be obvious to the listener.
Rhythmic Accuracy

Poor

The beat is usually erratic and rhythms are seldom accurate, detracting significantly from the overall performance.
Basic

The beat is somewhat erratic but some rhythms are accurate. Frequent or repeated duration errors. Rhythm problems occasionally detract from the overall performance.
Good

The beat is secure and the rhythms are mostly accurate. There are a few duration errors but do not significantly detract from the overall performance.
Excellent

The beat is secure and student confidently plays rhythms correctly with only an occasional mistake
