Supporting Details

Understand that the supporting details in a paragraph should work together to tell more about the main idea. Specific examples and quotes are used to support main idea.

Each paragraph four or more supporting detail sentences that relate to the main idea. Excellent choice of examples and quotes are used from the text.
3: Proficient

Paragraph contains supporting sentences containing specific details that support the main idea. Good job selecting examples and quotes from the text.
2: Emerging

Paragraph contains some supporting sentences containing details that support the main idea. Fair job selecting examples and quotes from the text. Some examples and quotes do not support main idea.
1: Needs Improvement

Paragraph contains sentences that do not support main idea. Example and quotes may not be used or do not sufficiently support the main idea.
Observes Basic Writing conventions

Uses basic punctuation correctly and free of spelling errors. Word choice is precise and appropriate for task.

4: Exemplary

Contains few, if any errors in spelling and grammar. Word choice is above average and sophisticated.
3: Proficient

Contains some errors in spelling and/or grammar but not enough to interfere with meaning and clarity. Word choice is average and appropriate for task.
2: Emerging

Contains several errors in spelling and/or grammar that may cause confusion in meaning and clarity at some points. Word choice needs improvement and not appropriate for level and task.
1: Needs Improvement

Contains many distracting errors in spelling and/or grammar. Errors cause confusion through most of the paragraph. Word choice is weak and not appropriate for level and task.

Typed or written in ink. Writing is legible and easy to read.
