Ready Position

- Feet a little more than shoulder width apart
- Bent forward in a sitting position
- Shoulders in front of knees
- Hands out in front of the body at waist level
- Low to the ground

Learning

The student does not perform the different cues at all or almost never.
Developing

At times, the student does perform one or two of the cues at times, but not all of them and not very often.
Developed

The student performs most or all of the cues some of the time, but not consistently.
Mastering

The student is able to get into the proper ready position consistently.
Mastered

The student is always in a proper ready position whenever the ball is in play, unless they are moving to a position.
Underhand Serving

- Shift weight from the back foot to the front foot.
- The ball is not thrown
- The ball is held out in front of the student
- The student follows through after the serve
- The student stays low when serving the ball

Learning

The student does not perform the different cues at all or almost never.
Developing

The student does perform a few of the cues, but not consistently.
Developed

The student is able to perform most of the cues, but when serving the ball usually not able to serve the ball over the net.
Mastering

The student is consistently able to perform all of the cues. The ball is able to get over the net consistently, but not onto the court consistently.
Mastered

The student is able to use the proper technique to serve the ball and is able to consistently get the ball onto the other court.
Bumping

- Ready position
- Hands wrapped together
- Lifting with your shoulders and legs
- Elbows together
- Follows through towards the target

Learning

The student does not perform the different cues at all or almost never.
Developing

The student performs one or two of the cues sometimes.
Developed

The student performs most of the cues, most of the time.
Mastering

The student consistently performs the cues.
Mastered

The student consistently performs the cues, and is also able to bump the ball to the setting zone.
Setting/Volleying

- Ready position
- Hands at chest level
- Hands in a diamond shape
- Lift arms above head
- Uses legs and arms to set the ball
- Follows through towards the target

The student does not perform the different cues at all or almost never.

The student performs one or two of the cues sometimes.

The student performs most of the cues, most of the time.
Mastering

The student consistently performs the cues.
Mastered

The student consistently performs the cues, and is able to set the ball around the hitters zone.

- Shifts weight from back to front
- Brings elbow to ear
- Extends arm

The student calls for the ball consistently and does try to be supportive and encouraging to others on the team.

The student is not only encouraging, but is helpful with the other students. The student tries to help other student understand and/or improve.
Movement

- Gets into a ready position after moving
- Gets to a place to be able to help if needed
- Moves to an offensive area or defensive area

Learning

- The student does not try to move when the ball is not hit to them. Stands still and unready to participate.
Developing

The student is sometimes ready to participate, but does not usually move around. They only stay in one place or small area.
Developed

The student is ready to participate and sometimes moves to a place to try and help their team.
Mastering

The student is usually looking to try and get into a place to help their team.
Mastered

The student moves around to get into a position to better help their teammates or to get to their position on the court.
