Piano Performance Assessment

Steady Beat	1 Student is not able to demonstrate the understanding of steady beat at this time. There were many pauses and hesitations throughout the performance.	2 Student plays MOST of the selection with a steady beat. There were 3-5 pauses or hesitations during the performance and this DID detract from the overall performance.	3 Student plays MOST of the selection with a steady beat. There was 1-2 pauses or hesitations during the performance but this did not detract from the overall performance.	4 Student plays selection with a steady beat throughout the ENTIRE performance. There were NO pauses or hesitations.
Rhythm	1 Student is not able to demonstrate the understanding of rhythm at this time.	2 SOME rhythms were played correctly throughout the performance.	3 MOST rhythms were played correctly throughout the performance.	4 ALL rhythms were played correctly throughout the entire performance.
Pitch	1 Student does not understand the concept of pitch at this time. Few to no pitches were played accurately during the performance.	2 Student plays SOME of the pitches accurately but there were 3 or more pitch mistakes during the performance. This DID detract from the performance.	3 Student plays MOST pitches accurately but there were 1-2 pitch mistakes during the performance. This did not detract from the overall performance.	4 Student plays ALL pitches accurately throughout the entire performance.
Technique & Posture	1 Student does not sit with a straight back, eyes on the music , curved fingers and/or correct fingering at this time.	2 Student sits with a straight back, eyes on the music at all times, curved fingers and/or correct fingering are used throughout the entire performance.	3 Student MOSTLY sits with a straight back, eyes on the music at all times, curved fingers and/or correct fingering are used throughout the entire performance.	4 Student sits with a straight back, eyes on the music at all times, curved fingers and correct fingering are used throughout the entire performance.
