Prewriting	5-Excellent The student elaborately wrote down their ideas for their story, listing at least five descriptive words they felt best fit their prompt.	3- Acceptable The students' ideas are limited, and they only list three or less descriptive words.	1/0- Inadequate The student engaged in minimal or no prewriting exercises.
Descriptive Word Usage	5-Excellent Uses at least five action words throughout the story.	3- Acceptable Uses two to three action words throughout the story.	1/0- Inadequate Only one or no descriptive words are incorporated into the story.
Sequence of Events	5-Excellent The story has a definite beginning, middle, and end, describing a correct sequence of events, and provides closure to the story. Story is well written and elaborate.	3- Acceptable The sequence of events is present, but is not definite. There is limited closure to the story. Story needs work on elaboration.	1/0- Inadequate The sequence of events is extremely hard to follow, there is no closure to the story. The story is not well written with no elaboration.
Illustration	5-Excellent Illustration accurately depicts the story being told.	3- Acceptable Illustration does not match up with the story.	1/0- Inadequate No illustration is provided.
