STEAM Marshmallow Tower Rubric
STEAM Marshmallow Tower Rubric
Students will get into groups of four to five people and construct a tower using raw spaghetti and marshmallows. The goal is to build the highest tower without it toppling over. They will all work under a time constraint.

Little to no cooperation between group members. They could not come up with a clear set of instructions and worked poorly together.

One person became the "leader" and gave everyone instructions for what to do. They all gave minimal effort int the activity and worked almost independently alongside the others.

All of the members participated, although some more than others. They did not argue or boss the others around.
Excellent
All members of the group participated in the activity and shared the work load. They worked well together and did not bicker or struggle to follow each others suggestions.
Time Management
Poor
The group was not able to finish promptly within the amount of time given to them.
Fair
The group had to rush to get a lot of their work done. They either just finished before the time limit ended, or finished slightly after.
Good
The group was still able to complete the tower within the time limit, but they did rush a little bit at the end.
Excellent
The group was able to complete the tower in within the allotted time given to them.
Construction
Poor
The tower was unable to stand on its own without the help of outside supports.
Fair
The tower could only stand on its own for a moment or two before toppling over.
Good
The tower was structurally sound, if a bit wobbly. And managed to stand alone without any outside supports.
Excellent
The group created a structurally sound tower that was able to completely stand up on its own.
