Planting a Garden: Rubric (5th grade) Planting a Garden: Rubric (5th grade) In groups, students will be given different seeds in order to plant a garden in the courtyard. Each group will research their plant types to learn about the different conditions that their plants thrive in. They will each submit a one page report explaining their findings. Together, students will plant their seeds. They will also need to keep track of the growth of their plants over time and record their measurements on a growth chart. Planting a Garden
	Poor 5 pts	Fair 10 pts	Good 15 pts	Excellent 25 pts
Group Participation	Poor Other group members did majority of project.	Fair Contributed to small portion of the project; other group members contributed more.	Good Group participation was good, but lacking enthusiasm to contribute.	Excellent Attempted to lead the group at times; enthusiasm was evident throughout project.
One-Page Report	Poor Student did not complete this portion of the project, or turned in a report that was less than one page and demonstrated little knowledge of the plant types. Contained five or more spelling or grammatical errors.	Fair Student's report was less than one page and included some knowledge of the plant types and how to care for them. Less than five grammatical or spelling errors.	Good Student's report was one page; demonstrated adequate knowledge of the plant types and how to care for them. Contained three or four grammatical or spelling errors.	Excellent Student's report was one page or more; listed all of the conditions in which their plant types thrive and the proper ways to take care of them. Contains no more than three grammatical errors.
Planting Process	Poor Student demonstrated knowledge of one of the four steps of planting seeds.	Fair Student demonstrated knowledge of two of the four steps of planting seeds.	Good Student demonstrated knowledge of three of the four steps of planting seeds.	Excellent Student demonstrated knowledge four out of the four steps of planting seeds.
Measurement	Poor Student's measurements were off by several inches.	Fair Student's measurements were off by more than one inch.	Good Student's measurements were off by an inch or less.	Excellent Student's measurements were exact.
